Founded in 1966 in Hualien, Taiwan, Master Cheng Yen, initially started Tzu Chi with 30 housewives saving 50 cents a day and contributing them to a bamboo bank. Together with five disciples, each produced an additional pair of baby shoes. With the spirit of self-denial, diligence, thriftiness, and overcoming adversity, they established Tzu Chi, embarking on a journey of alleviating poverty and bringing happiness to the suffering. Tzu Chi’s mission has evolved from charity to healthcare, education, and humanities. From its humble beginnings in Hualien, Tzu Chi has expanded globally to encompass five continents, with branches or liaison offices in 57 countries and regions, and has provided assistance to over 97 countries and regions to date. With a heart of gratitude, Tzu Chi members give selflessly, offering genuine care and comfort to every person in need.

In 2013, the general manager of Banglin became acquainted with Tzu Chi. Impressed by its global contributions, he decided to join as a volunteer and contribute to its charitable work. Inspired by the general manager’s call, the company’s employees also decided to contribute. Since 2014, every morning for all employees of Banglin  is to respectfully drop one yuan into a bamboo donation box and offer a sincere blessing—may people’s hearts be purified, society be peaceful, and the world be free from disasters.

What can one yuan do? A steaming bun, a simple ballpoint pen, a tiny piece of leather… One yuan, in our eyes, doesn’t seem like a significant thing at all. Yes, one yuan may not mean much. But this humble one yuan has warmed the hearts of many, changed a person’s fate, brought a bleak life back to life, and illuminated their future with the light of hope. Although our individual efforts are limited, if we unite our will, like an army of ants, the world will turn.
